Unlock Your True-Heart's Desire

Have you ever felt a deep longing within your heart? Maybe it's one for connection, health, peace, or order. That yearning, put there by God, can hold the key to discovering your true-heart's desire. When our inspirations align with His will, we are led to prayer, faith, and action, the motivation we need for transformation! But how do we unlock and act upon these inspirations to create real, meaningful change in our lives?

Let’s explore a simple three-step process—Discern, Decide, Do—to unlock your God-given inspiration.

Step 1: Discern

The first step is to deeply and intentionally take some reflective time to gain clarity and self-knowledge. Begin by prayerfully asking yourself the following questions:

  • What is the true desire that God has placed in my heart?
  • Why do I feel this longing, and how does it align with His will?
  • What practical steps can I take to move toward this inspiration?

God often reveals answers through moments of inspiration within scripture, a quiet walk, a sermon, a book, a podcast, or a conversation. Writing down your insights, prayers, and reflections can help clarify your motivations. Use this time to also anticipate challenges. For example, how might you overcome obstacles and seek guidance or support from someone who has walked a similar path?

Most importantly, remember that the burning desire itself is a gift from God, placed in your heart to inspire transformation. Once realized, trust that He will provide the grace you need to unlock it.

Step 2: Decide

Once you’ve identified your desire, it’s time to create a plan. This requires weighing options and considering how to overcome potential barriers. Ask yourself:

  • What plan is realistic, given my current season of life?
  • How can I prepare for moments of temptation or doubt?
  • Does this plan inspire confidence and align with God’s calling?

Confidence is essential. If you find yourself hesitant, revisit the discernment process for further clarity or seek help from a friend, pastor, counselor, or coach. Make sure your plan is actionable for you, even during challenging times. For example, if you struggle with consistency, consider incorporating small, manageable changes that help you build momentum over time.

Deciding also means understanding and preparing for the "theology of risk." Growth often feels uncertain or uncomfortable, but faith requires stepping forward even when the outcome isn’t fully visible. Trust that God’s strength will guide you.

Step 3: Do

The final step is to take action. Moving forward in faith requires determination and trust. Mother Angelica wisely said, “Faith is one foot on the ground, one foot in the air, and a queasy feeling in the stomach.” Taking that first step, even when afraid, invites God’s grace to meet you. This reflects the “theology of risk” she taught and followed as she unlocked her inspirations, all by the grace of God.

Consider these practical actions to support your inspiration:

  • Start your day in His Simple Presence, asking for God’s blessing and strength.
  • Write your plan and break it into small, actionable steps, staying open to adjustments with grace along the way.
  • Lean on scripture, such as Jabez’s prayer in 1 Chronicles 4:10: “Oh, that you would bless me and extend my boundaries, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm.”

Be patient and persistent. Transformation takes time and can have its ups and downs, but every time you take a step forward, it will strengthen your faith and resolve.

Alignment

True desires stem from a heart aligned with God’s purpose for us. Achieving our goals goes beyond the end result; it's about becoming who God created us to be. By discerning our desires, deciding on a plan, and doing it as an act of faith, we grow closer to Him and transform into the best version of ourselves. As Jesus reminds us in Mark 11:22-24, faith has the power to move mountains. When we pray from this true-hearted place of alignment within, fully believing in God’s ability to accomplish what we ask, the impossible becomes possible.

What mountain is God calling you to face today? Take that first step, whether it feels big or small, to pursue the support you need, trust in His grace, and watch as God answers your prayers. Your true-heart’s desire can be unlocked through faith in The One who placed it there.
